BLOCK ISLAND BY FAST FERRY

Rhode Island’s own picturesque gem, Block Island, beckons us today - so near and yet so far away! Although only 12 miles off the Rhode Island shoreline, there’s a special sense of peace on the Island that you don’t find on shore. We’ll board the new fast ferry in Point Judith for a short, half-hour cruise to the Island. On shore in Old Harbor, we’ve included a sightseeing tour of the Island and a delicious included lunch at the classic National Hotel. The rest of the day is free to enjoy as you please ---- rent a bike, browse the quaint shops or just sit and “people watch.” We’ll return to the mainland in late afternoon. If you’ve never been to Block Island – or haven’t been in a while - try this trip - it’s a perfect way to celebrate summer on what the Nature Conservancy calls one of the “Twelve Last Great Places on Earth.”

GLOUCESTER - ROCKPORT

The book and subsequent movie, The Perfect Storm, introduced the world to Cape Ann, Massachusetts and the seafaring heritage of this beautifully rugged coast and the hazards that local fishermen have faced for centuries. NANTUCKET BY HIGH SPEED FERRY

You’ve asked for more time on Nantucket Island, so this year, we’ll travel to Hyannis and board the high-speed “Grey Lady” for our cruise to this popular summer haven 30 miles off the Massachusetts coast. PROVINCETOWN

Today we travel to Cape Cod’s outermost tip, the town of Provincetown. Upon arrival we’ll enjoy a narrated trolley tour of the area – sometimes referred to as the “shining jewel” of Cape Cod. You’ll view the Pilgrim Monument, the art district, National Seashore Park, and hear about Provincetown’s first visitor in 1004 and many other unique things. The narration covers the past to the present with over 20 points of interest. After the trolley tour, you’ll have time to enjoy lunch at any of the fine restaurants and visit the many attractions and boutiques. Kennebunkport is a picturesque seaside village, with world-class shopping and unforgettable vistas in every direction. Upon arrival, we’ll meet our Maine guide and embark on a driving tour of this seaside resort, seeing such sights as the Franciscan Monastery, the “Wedding Cake House” and Walker’s Point, the summer home of former President George H.W. SHEAR MADNESS AND UNION OYSTER HOUSE

Acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest running, non-musical play in American theater history, “Shear Madness” has been delighting crowds since its Boston opening in 1987. We’ll make a brief stop in Fanueil Hall marketplace and then enjoy lunch at Boston’s historic Union Oyster House, a National Historic Landmark and the oldest restaurant in continuous service in the U.S.. After lunch, settle in at the Charles Playhouse for this comedy “whodunit” that takes place in a unisex hairstyling salon. A zany crime has been committed and the audience gets to figure out “whodunit” – leading to a hilarious and different show every performance.!

We return to Cape Cod again and the 40th anniversary of the Bourne Scallop Festival in Buzzards Bay along the banks of the Cape Cod Canal. This is the largest Scallop Festival on the East Coast and it just keeps getting better! Included is a traditional full scallop (or chicken) luncheon.
